Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can SCS deliver my animal(s) to more than one processor?
A: Yes! If you or your customers prefer more than one processor, we do our best to accommodate.

Q: Can customers pick up their animal(s) on the day of slaughter?
A: Absolutely! On-farm pickups are common. We simply ask that all customers are on time, prepared, and have the proper means of transport for their meat.

Q: Can SCS dispose of byproducts?
A: Yes. We offer additional waste disposal services (heads, hides guts etc.)

Disposal fees are as follows: $10/pig, $10/sheep, $20/beef, $25/bull.

PLEASE NOTE: We request beef to be cut off from feed ~48 hours prior to harvest. This allows time for the animal to void its rumen. Failure to do so will likely require us to empty grass content in the field. (Due to weight and volume restrictions we do not dispose of full rumens/"hay") We will remove the grass from the rumen prior to loading stomachs into our mobile slaughter units.

Please be aware of this if you request waste disposal and have opted to not cut animal off from feed.

If you wish to dispose of byproduct on your land and would like it loaded in a loader bucket, truck bed etc. please have that provided during our process so we can integrate loading byproduct as part of our work flow.

SCS Mobile Slaughter has a two part policy regarding waste disposal. "Touch it once" and "Remove the hay where it lay".

Q: What are the expectations of the livestock owner?
A: To ensure a smooth and safe process, we ask that you:

  1. Have animals penned and easily accessible to the mobile unit before we arrive.
  2. Confirm your processing date with your preferred meat processor.
  3. Provide a list of customer names and phone numbers (if applicable) so we can tag each carcass correctly.
  4. when possible:
  • Withhold feed 24 hours prior to slaughter for pigs/sheep. 48 hours prior to slaughter for beef (but continue to provide water).
  • Keep animals scheduled for slaughter in a separate pen from others not being harvested.
  • Provide SCS slaughter-man with a small bucket of feed/hay.
